Summary of 2017

2017 was another year of great shows for GCMRA. Besides the familiar venues like Twin Towers and Chesterwood Village, we added a new location to our list of shows. Bayley Community Wellness Center in the Dehli area of Cincinnati was a very well publicized and attended show. The folks there were great to work with and provided us with a super location for our display. We hope to be invited back again in the near future.

We also attended the 50th Annual N.M.R.A. Division 7 Train and Trade Show at Lakota West High School in October. This was a milestone in history, being the 50th year and the longest running train show in the country. GCMRA was honored with a certificate for being one of the clubs participating the longest in this show.

Another first for GCMRA this year will be our Christmas display moving from the Tri-County Mall to the Northgate Mall for 11 days from December 13th through December 23rd. So come on by and see a large working display of trains from steam to modern diesel power.

Summary of 2016

In 2016 GCMRA returned to several locations. They were Twin Towers, Chesterwood Village and the New England Club in Anderson Township. We added a new show at The Waterford at Fairfield in July.

In addition we attended the N.M.R.A. Division 7 Train Show at Lakota West High School and displayed for 10 days at the Tri-County Mall.

We are always looking for new places for shows and welcome any suggestions. Please send comments or suggestions to the club on this website by clicking on the "Contact GCMRA" link on the home page.

Summary of 2014

In 2014 our club put on 5 train shows. Two were at retirement facilities, one at the Shriners Hospital and the annual NMRA Division 7 show in West Chester and the Tri-County Mall show. This was our 8th year at Tri-County Mall.

This years show at Shriners Hospital was different than most of our shows. Usually our shows are on weekends, Friday to Sunday. This show was a daytime only display for patients who come to the hospital for doctor appointments. It was a joy to brighten the day of these patients. We also received many positive comments from the hospital staff.

Please check the "Calendar of Events" page for a list of the proposed shows for 2015.

Summary of 2013

We had several big changes in the year 2013. Among them were changes to our arsenal of modules with the addition of two new Club Corner modules – one inside and one outside - built by several club members. The scenery and landscaping elements are still under construction but these modules are fully functional now and ready for future shows.

Also this year we have added 5 new members and had the return of one member who recently moved back into our area. This brings 6 new modules to the Club improving show layout sizes and configurations.

We ended the year on a high note with annual Train Shows at Lakota West High School in October and Tri-County Mall in December. Both events were very well attended with many positive comments about the new modules and changes made to existing modules. One popular area was our Drive-In Theatre module which now has movies actually projected from the Concession Stand onto the Drive-In’s screen. Another attraction was the module of a great ravine with water and four large truss bridges built by one of the new members. We have a diverse group of members and the scenic possibilities are limited only by their imaginations. This is what makes GCMRA so great.

For the coming year we are committed to providing the most interesting and exciting train shows for our audiences including a possible show at the Shriners Hospital. Check out the “Calendar of Events” page for the schedule of shows for 2014.

If you are interested in Model Railroading come join the fun with GCMRA. We are always looking for new members and ideas to enhance the railroading experience. View our “Module Specifications” on the link to the left and call or email our President for information on becoming a member and start enjoying the “World’s Greatest Hobby.”

We just completed a show at The Twin Towers Retirement Community in College Hill and had a super time. The residents and staff could not have been any more enthusiastic and helpful. The show was one of the largest we have had in quite awhile, measuring 40' x 28' in an "L" configuration.

We held a giveaway for a Norfolk Southern fleece blanket and mini-notebook. It was won by a 91 year old resident who told us she had never won anything in her life before.

We would like to thank all the staff for inviting us!!!!

Also we thank our own Dave Dixon and Paul Bretschneider, Coordinators for the Show, who did an outstanding job putting this all together.

Next show, The Seasons in Montgomery in June. Check our "Calendar of Events" page for locations and dates of upcoming shows.

The GCMRA's 5th Annual Tri-County Mall show has come to a close.  It was great to see all the smiling faces on the kids as they watched the trains run.

This year, we had a drawing for one winner to come and run the trains with us for 30 minutes.  The winner for the 1st ever "Run the Train" drawing was Price Gallagher of Fairfield Twp.  We need to send out a huge THANKS to Norfolk and Southern for providing some extra items for the winner.

The GCMRA would like to thank all that donated to the club and we wish you and family a joyful holiday season!

See you next year, and remember keep those trains running!
